This 10,000 sq. ft. energy building was designed to include two classrooms, two laboratory/shop areas, a conference room and a learning center. The green roof creates natural insulation and decreases water runoff from the building. This innovative building takes advantage of building materials that increase energy efficiency and is utilized as an educational tool. Two types of photo-voltaic panels are utilized to supplement electrical power as well as wind turbines.
The mechanical system is also unique in that the heating system is an in-slab radiant floor system. The cooling system is a low velocity type that is not only efficient but helps create better air quality. The structural wall system utilizes an Insulated Concrete Form system (ICF) which is energy efficient and reduces construction waste because of its modular aspect and recycled content. This facility is CHPS and LEED “Gold” certified.
